1.  Minutes of BOD Meeting 01-20-08
This meeting was held online and Ron Schaner sent out report of agenda items discussed.

2. Financial Report
Treasurer Linda reported current status of funds and accounts at El Dorado Bank.  Our CD is
now worth  $5,522.00 currently with County Bank Checking account currently contains
$7,346.24.65.
Bill Miller told us we do not need to file taxes since we have no employees and are nonprofit.

3. Old Business

URJ –
We need to continue the paperwork to apply for membership in the Union for Reformed
Judaism .  Judy, Tami and Holly have worked on writing the required “Mission Statement” and
have written paper on “Purpose”.  We also need to encompass MLJC’s “Personality.  We need
another paper describing why we want to join URJ.  We decided our Mission Statement will just
refer to the purpose and personality paper.  The reason for joining will be to educate us on
how we should be working toward making ours a complete congregation—improve our website,
how to obtain a bldg. of our own, materials and info. on Jewish education and however else
URJ might assist us in becoming a true congregation.

Torah Insurance
Holly has checked with her insurance company and they say our Torahs are covered when
they are in our homes.

Kristina Bronstein’s Illness
It was decided to send Kristina a “Get Well” card and ask her if there was anything else we
could do to help her and to let her know we were thinking about her.  Judy said she would send
the card.

Community Seder
All who attended felt that the community seder was very successful but noted that attendance
has been dropping over the years.  We had 43 attendees this year.  Ron suggested we make
an effort to cut the costs in the future and we discussed what things we should change to
reduce costs next year.  Holly suggested we consider asking the Unity Church in Sonora if we
could use their space next year.  They have offered to let us use their space for just $15 to
cover utility costs.  There was a shortage this year of $700.

Israeli Girl, Haisha

Judy said Haisha had her baby and does not need help. She attended one of Judy’s Hebrew
classes.

Coalition for Compassion in Action
This is the new name of the Interfaith group joined by Holly and Judy. Judy reported on the
current plans for a 1PM peace meeting on Washington Square in Sonora. The group also
plans to encourage all churches to observe 12PM moment of peace and ring a bell if they
have one.  Lynda W. plans to attend future meetings with them.

Guest Rabbis
All members who met with Rabbi Valerie at the Shabbat Service at Arlene’s in March have said
how much they like her and would like to have her back.  Ron has been in contact with her and
is trying to arrange a future service for her to lead.

Judy has suggested her friend, Rabbi Jayne Simon was available to be here for services in
July.  She thought Rabbi Jayne might be able to come for the Yaroshinsky bat mitzvah and has
given her contact information to Sophie Yaroshinsky.  The Board decided it would be entirely
up to the Yaroshinskys if they wish to have Rabbi Jayne for Maria’s bat mitzvah and their family
should pay for the rabbi’s expenses and any charges for coming.  Judy said she would relay
that info. to the Yaroshinskys and to Rabbi Jayne.

4. New Business

Bat Mitzvah Gifts
Holly showed us the beautiful candle holders she bought to present as gifts to our bat mitzvahs
this year.  We voted to reimburse the $189.90 she paid for them, plus candles and educational
materials.

MLJC Responsible for Gutter Damage
After the Community Seder, there was some damage to the gutter of the Native Sons Hall
caused by one of our vehicle’s bumping against the gutter strip on the side of the bldg.  Ron is
waiting to find out the repair costs and will report back to us what might be involved.  He will
report at our next Board meeting.
